We had our June cruise at JJ's on Saturday, June 13 and the place filled up early.  I arrived about 3:00 to set up and there were already 10 cars or so on the lot!  The weather was a little hot with the sun shining, but over all the evening was perfect.  There was another great turn out of cars.  The number of street rods and hot rods was impressive.  Both the JJ's lot and the Bank lot were full for most of the evening.  We could have done without the burn outs, but other than that the evening was terrific!

We had a great Club turn out with 23 club members in attendance.  It was nice to see so many club members come out for the cruise! Bryan and Debbie Walus and Tim and Kathy Von Cloedt helped man the information table.  We had a good supply of our Car Show flyers available along with flyers for the Woodson Terrace, McNair Park (Lyons) and Cuba, MO (Lyons) car shows.  Special thanks to Ed Rischert for handing out our show flyers on both lots!

Bob Hayes and his wife (Memories Car Club) came up from Fenton to check out our cruise and were impressed with the number of nice cars on display.  They had dinner at JJ's and really enjoyed the ribs and pizza.  We also signed up two new club members!  Welcome to Kevin and Becky Pendergast and Glen Kerner.  We had several other inquiries about our Club as well.  Overall, a very successful cruise.  Don't forget the busy day we have next Saturday, June 20 with the St. Peters Old Tyme Parade at 8:00 a.m. at Mid-Rivers Mall (Staging by Max & Irmas) and then the cruise at Breeze Park Retirement Community at 2:00 p.m.  Be there or be square!  Sandy, the VP.

Clunkers for Cash Information PDF Print E-mail

Note:  This information is being posted on our website for informational purposes only.  The American Roadhouse Car Club neither supports or endorses any information contained in this message, and is not taking a political stand by publishing this information.

WASHINGTON (CNNMoney.com) -- The House on Tuesday waded deeper into the rescue of the troubled auto industry when it passed a $4 billion plan to subsidize new cars sales for consumers who scrap old ones. By a vote of 298-119, the House approved the "cash for clunkers" program. The measure would give consumers vouchers worth as much as $4,500 to turn in gas guzzlers and buy new cars that are more fuel efficient. The legislation now goes to the Senate. President Obama has said he supports such a measure. The House bill would go into effect within 30 days of enactment but it is not retroactive for new purchases made earlier this year. The move by the House would deepen the federal government's involvement in the auto industry, only a week after federal officials announced spending another $30 billion in addition to the $19.4 billion already given to GM to cover its losses and operations.

"The bipartisan cars act will shore up millions of jobs and stimulate local economies. It will improve our environment and reduce our dependence on foreign oil," said bill sponsor Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, during floor debate. "The cars act demonstrates that we can free ourselves from the false argument of either you are for the environment or you are for jobs. You can do both, you must do both." While the original cash-for-clunkers proposal had its roots in an environmental initiative, this bill aims to jump-start sales of new cars and trucks, including some that don't quite meet the average fuel efficiency standards.

Clunkers eligible for the program must get 18 miles per gallon, or less, in combined city and highway driving. The subsidy ends up benefiting more owners of light trucks, SUVs and mini-vans more than it would owners of regular old passenger cars, auto experts say.  A $3,500 subsidy can be used toward purchasing cars and vans that are more fuel efficient than the older clunkers by four miles per gallon. A $4,500 subsidy can be used toward purchasing cars and vans that are more fuel efficient than older cars by 10 miles per gallon.

However, cars that have not been insured for the past year or those that are older than 25 years are not eligible to be traded in for vouchers.

The House measure aims to spend $4 billion in new dollars toward the measure, and was expected to get added through a war supplemental funding bill. That could prove to be a sticking point, since some Republicans in the Senate said they rather such a measure use already allocated dollars. "We're going to have to pay the piper at some time," said Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. "This is a clunker of a bill." The program lasts either one year or until the funding runs out.

So now the focus turns to the Senate, where two versions of a subsidy bill have been introduced. Neither has yet to be voted on or fully debated. The Senate proposal that is most similar to the House bill is sponsored by Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., along with Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas. That bill takes its funding from existing stimulus dollars and is retroactive for new purchases made since March 31. Environmental lobbying groups are pushing for an environmentally tougher bill geared more toward cutting carbon emissions. That measure, sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., aims to replace more gas guzzlers with more environmentally sensitive and fuel efficient carsTo top of page

Cruise News.......We decided to take a bit of a road trip this evening (Friday, June 5) and check out a cruise sponsored by our friends at Memories Car Club.  This cruise is held every first Friday of the month at Life Christian Church on Highway 30, just west of I270 in South County.  We thought it might be an opportunity to pass out our show flyers, and we weren't disappointed. This is a huge facility and there were literally hundreds of cars there.  The cruise officially starts at 5:00 but if you aren't there lined up to get onto the show lot by 3:30 or 4:00 it is a strong possibility you won't get a spot.  We understand the lot holds 340 cars and it was packed full this evening with every kind of car you could imagine, with other show type vehicles waiting for a spot to open up.  There were hot rods, street rods, rat rods, stock and original vehicles, specialty vehicles, Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, Cudas, Challengers, Novas, Mustangs, T-buckets....you name it, they had it and they were beautiful!  We passed out the last of the flyer supply and wished we had more!  The sponsor club also has a disc jockey playing great music, and there were concessions, tables and chairs to sit down, and indoor restrooms.  All in all, a very impressive event and Memories should be commended for managing this large of an outing during the summer cruise months.  Thanks guys for putting this on!  We'll be back!  Sandy, the VP.
