At the March meeting several trips and activities were planned. For March we are going to meet at the US Bank lot , leaving at 10:30 to take a tour of the Busch Brewery followed up by a lunch at Hodak's Restaurant, which is well known for it's delicious fried chicken. In April a drive is planned to Ste. Genevieve for a beautiful drive and sightseeing/shopping on Sunday the 30th. In May we will be joining the Olds Club for a jam packed trip to Fulton on Saturday the 14th. Besides seeing the car museum there will be stops at antique stores, the Churchill Memorial and lunch at the old post office. Then on May 15th the Olds Club is having it's annual Mayfest Car Show in O'Fallon, Illinois. On June 26th we are going on a day trip to Hannibal, MO for an enjoyable outing and nice drive. We will also attend the McNair Park/ Lions Club show on July 10th. If you are interested in the big car show in Memphis in May - and all things Elvis- contact MaryBeth for details. There will be another HotRod Reunion Show and Shine in Festus on September 24th. Bring canned goods which will be donated to a local food pantry. Check out the Memories Car Club website for more details. Memoriescarclub.com Don't forget JJ's is having cruises every Friday night starting in April as well as on the second Saturday of each month. Other events such as the Horseless Carriage Easter Show in Forest Park were discussed which will feature Barb's Chevy convertible this year, and it is also featured in the March issue of the AAA magazine. We also talked about other day trips which were put on hold due to flood predictions in various areas.
A list of various local shows and cruises is being compiled and will be available at the meetings and cruises. We will post more here also. If you have an idea for a club outing or know of a fun car event that is planned please contact us and let us know. |

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) is proud to announce July 8, 2011, as Collector Car Appreciation Day. This will be the second celebration in what will become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. The SAN is now working to secure a Congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance. “Last year, the U.S. Senate helped launch the first national Collector Car Appreciation Day by passing Senate Resolution 513 at our request,” said SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs, Steve McDonald. “As a result, thousands of Americans gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation¹s automotive heritage. As we move forward, the SAN’s commitment to preserving and promoting the automotive hobby through its legislative advocacy, projects and programs is evident in this special day.” As American automotive enthusiasts, we have a unique understanding of the importance of our cars. We know the significance of the automobile to our nation¹s economic and social fabric. Countless jobs, technological advancements and revenue rely on the industry and its enthusiasts. Moreover, our hobby is the embodiment of American freedom. Not only are we able to travel freely, but we can express ourselves through the modification of our cars. Automobiles have become an art form. Some enthusiasts prefer to use their vehicles as a rolling canvas to the world. Others choose to express their competitive nature through motorsports. Cars also have a unique way of bringing people together. “Time in the garage, at the racetrack or at the local cruise-in has united families and created lifelong friendships between like-minded people,” said Mike Dingell, director of the SEMA Action Network. “Restored vehicles also provide a window to the past and promote our hobby by educating future enthusiasts. Racetracks, car shows, swap meets and the like have provided us all with memories and experiences we will never forget. This day showcases our unique car culture not only to fellow Americans, but to the world.” The SAN encourages enthusiasts all over the nation to commemorate Friday, July 8 as Collector Car Appreciation Day. To help enthusiasts celebrate, SAN is compiling a list of events happening around the country on July 8, 2011. We have started a New Year, and with it the club has new officers and board members. Actually most are returning members. The last few years membership and participation has declined. The threat of the club being disbanded renewed our interest and determination to revive the club. Already more former members are rejoining. Welcome Back Everyone! We hope more will return, and to build on that. We have a list of activities planned and welcome suggestions. Here's hoping for a healthy, prosperous and event filled 2011 for us all. Let's enjoy our cars and our club. President Jeanne Simpson Vice President Linda Greiner Secretary Marybeth Luedloff Treasurer Faye Denninger Board Members- Eric Brown, Joe DeVincent, Wes Greiner, Glenn Luedloff and Charlie Simpson |
